Wherever you were a moment ago, you aren't there now.

You found yourself immersed in a bitter fog of coffee fumes and muted chatter from every direction.
The room you were in was actually a small shop, in which you were seated, behind the line.
College students stared at their laptops with dumb, aching eyes in tables near you,
while couples sat at the other tables, giggling and kissing.

A few minutes past while your mind struggled to fathom your own body.
You managed to feel a few tingles and itches in your fingertips, but nothing more.

A girl's horrified gasp silenced the entire shop.
Everyone turned to see the girl scramble to wipe her coffee off of a man,
who merely smiled and murmured her quiet reassurances without a single complaint.
The chatter and buzz resumed, sparing the girl's pride.

A glazed vanilla-bean scone dropped loudly on your table.
Tissues fluttered down with it too, like little birds.

A man appeared, exactly in your line of sight, in front of your table.
His fashionable, wool jacket was slung over his arm and smelled strongly of coffee,
not to mention, a few droplets were sparkling in his hair and on the tips of his eyelashes.

"May I sit with you?"

He sat without waiting for your permission, as though he knew your tongue was still numb.
He glided the scone across to you, pushing it with his long fingers.
You noticed he as wearing leather gloves.
Intimidating.

"Try smelling it."

His dark, scarlet eyes watched you calmly, and he smiled.
Not an encouraging smile, an inquisitive smile.

"You can barely move, is that right?"

You didn't worry about anyone hearing him,
his voice was so low that it slid under the music the shop played.
He watched you for a moment longer, before relaxing into his chair impassively.

He pulled a lock of his wet hair through his fingers before his eyes, examining it.
He slipped the hair into his mouth and sucked gently.

"Coffee..." He scoffed.
"A ridiculous drink. And that girl too, with her dyed hair.
Such a clumsy little thing. I swear.... Meyrin has traumatized me."

He laughed again, musing over what he said.
He seemed to find himself funny.

"You don't have anywhere to go, do you."

It wasn't a question. Even if it was, you couldn't answer.
He smiled pleasantly, appreciating your silence.

"I'll just take you with me then."
